This is not mere factual error. It is Holocaust inversion, a technique that weaponizes the memory of Jewish suffering to justify contemporary aggression against Jews and their democratic allies.

Zelenskyy's great-grandparents and other family members were murdered during the Holocaust, yet Russian state media consistently portrays him as a Nazi collaborator. This serves multiple strategic goals: providing false moral justification for military aggression, trivializing the systematic murder of six million Jews, and exploiting global awareness of Nazism to confuse international opinion.

The psychological warfare dimension is deliberate. Russian propagandists choose the most painful historical memories precisely because they inflict maximum emotional damage on communities that still carry intergenerational trauma. When state media twists the memory of genocide to justify violence against a Jewish leader defending a democratic nation, it compounds historical wounds while preparing public opinion for further atrocities.

There is no legitimate political debate to be had here. Using the Holocaust as a propaganda weapon against Jews is inexcusable. No geopolitical objective, no territorial claim, and no grievance, real or manufactured, justifies it.

Reviving the Global Jewish Conspiracy Myth

The notion of a "global Jewish conspiracy" did not emerge organically from popular grievance. It was manufactured. The consequences extend far beyond Russia's borders. These narratives fuel antisemitic violence worldwide, targeting Jewish communities, synagogues, and individuals who bear no relationship to any political event. Russian media presents the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a simple story of Jewish aggression against an innocent people. This framing is not analysis. Intelligence services align messaging across multiple platforms and languages, ensuring narrative consistency while adapting content for regional audiences. State-funded academic institutions add false intellectual legitimacy to conspiracy theories. Cultural products embed antisemitic themes in entertainment that reaches mass audiences without appearing overtly political. The result is that Russian antisemitic narratives now appear regularly in supposedly independent media, academic discourse, and political debates across the democratic world. That spread is not a spontaneous cultural development. It is the measurable outcome of a deliberate foreign influence operation.

Real-World Consequences

The reach of this campaign is not theoretical. Academic research has documented correlations between intensified Russian propaganda and subsequent spikes in antisemitic incidents in Western countries. When Russian state media amplifies "Zionist conspiracy" narratives, Jewish communities report measurable increases in harassment, vandalism, and physical attacks in the weeks that follow.

For Holocaust survivors and their descendants, this is not an abstract policy question. These are the same conspiracy theories and scapegoating narratives that created the conditions for genocide in the twentieth century. Encountering them again, amplified now by satellite television and social media algorithms, is an experience of ongoing collective trauma. The fact that antisemitism has been normalized across centuries of history does not make it more acceptable. It makes vigilance more urgent.

Blaming Jews for the world's problems is history's oldest and most repeatedly disproven scapegoating tactic. Russian propaganda recycles these same medieval myths with modern technology. The tools have changed. The intent has not.
